Soundloop we spoke for a while with Peter Rogers. Peter is a
multi-instrumentalist and composer from the Western New York area. He has
several releases under his own name and under the moniker I, Captain. In this
interview we delve, among other things, into his influences and the story
behind his music. Don't miss it.
How did you
discover your passion for music?
I guess it was when I was a little kid. I would ride in the backseat of the car listening to the radio. I would hear a lot of songs from the 50's and early 60's that just were so catchy and fun to sing along to. I'd say it was those moments that sparked my love for music.
What are your
main musical influences and how are they reflected in your style?
I probably incorporate every bit of influence into the music. I'm inspired by any type of music that hits in my brain. I describe my music as Rock and Funk, Blues and Punk because all those styles and genres are a heavy influence.
What story or
message behind your lastest EP One for the Money?
The story behind EP1 or "One for the Money" is simply that they were some songs that I couldn't really work into the albums. I decided to make an EP out of those songs. I like how it turned out plus, I love when bands put out EP's. They always wind up being some of the best work. Not saying that's the case for me, but I loved putting this out and it's gotten some good response.
What do you
think of the current independent music scene?
I think the independent scene, like most others, goes through hot and cold periods. There is always great stuff coming out and bands that emerge, but it always seems like these waves happen and there is a plethora of awesome stuff and then at other times feels stale.
What advice
would you give to other musicians just starting out?
My advice would be to be patient. Nothing happens quickly and no matter how much time and energy you put in, it isn't going to guarantee that people will like it. Find your audience and never be afraid to fail. If you walk away only gaining one fan, you succeeded. So be patient.

Aquí en la Revista Soundloop estuvimos hablando un rato con
Peter Rogers. Peter es un multiinstrumentista y compositor del área occidental
de Nueva York. Tiene varios lanzamientos bajo su propio nombre y bajo el apodo
de I, Captain. En esta entrevista nos sumergimos, entre otras cosas, en sus
influencias y la historia detrás de su música. No te la pierdas.
¿Cómo
descubriste tu pasión por la música?
Supongo que fue cuando yo era un niño pequeño. Iba en el asiento trasero del auto escuchando la radio. Escuchaba muchas canciones de los años 50 y principios de los 60 que eran muy pegadizas y divertidas de cantar. Diría que fueron esos momentos los que despertaron mi amor por la música.

historia o mensaje hay detrás de vuestro último EP One for the Money?
La historia detrás del EP1 o One for the Money es simplemente que eran algunas canciones que realmente no podía incorporar en los álbumes. Decidí hacer un EP con esas canciones. Me gusta cómo quedó y además, me encanta cuando las bandas sacan EP. Siempre terminan siendo algunos de los mejores trabajos. No digo que ese sea mi caso, pero me encantó publicar esto y obtuvo una buena respuesta.
¿Qué opinas
de la escena musical independiente actual?
Creo que la escena independiente, como la mayoría de las demás, pasa por períodos fríos y calientes. Siempre salen cosas geniales y surgen bandas, pero siempre parece que estas olas suceden y hay una gran cantidad de cosas increíbles y luego, en otros momentos, se siente estancado.
¿Qué consejo
le darías a otros músicos que recién empiezan?
Mi consejo sería tener paciencia. Nada sucede rápidamente y no importa cuánto tiempo y energía le dediques, no garantizará que a la gente le guste. Encuentra tu audiencia y nunca tengas miedo de fallar. Si te vas ganando solo un fan, lo has logrado. Así que ten paciencia.
