Here at Revista Soundloop we take some time with the Australian musician Jason McKee, leader of ReeToxA. In this first part of the interview, we were chatting a little about his new single "Bobbie", which we have reviewed in the magazine here. Don't miss it.
How did you discover
your passion for music?
My papa had an amazing record collection which I was obsessed with. It tape them and walk around with my Walkman. Later In life, songs just started appearing in my head and I just had to release something!
What are your main
musical influences and how are they reflected in your style?
I love Beach Boys, Nirvana, Beatles and The pixies, The Best. I do hear an influence of them in my song structures.
How was your creative
process when composing your song "Bobbie"?
Unfortunately, I was in minimum security prison for six months and mum got really sick in the first week. The chorus started as a prayer / mantra for meditation to wish her well, but after she passed away, I wrote down everting I was feeling. I painstakingly then narrowed it down to a song.
What is the story or
message behind that song?
To love your mum and never take her for granted. All your actions affect her no matter how long you have left her nest.
How did you record
your song "Bobbie"? Do you want to tell us something about
what the process was like?
I recorded the melody and lyrics, and we came up with the music during a pre-production session. The band took the music to a whole new level though. My mind was blown as we recorded it in four takes. Recording the vocals was very emotional. I broke down crying several times.

Aquí en la Revista Soundloop nos tomamos un rato para hablar con el músico australiano Jason McKee, líder de ReeToxA. En esta primera parte de la entrevista estuvimos charlando un poco sobre su nuevo single "Bobbie", el cual hemos reseñado en la revista aquí. No te lo pierdas.
¿Cómo descubriste tu pasión por la música?
Mi papá tenía una colección de discos increíble con la que yo estaba obsesionado. Los había grabado en casette y caminaba con mi Walkman. Más adelante en la vida, las canciones empezaron a aparecer en mi cabeza y ¡tenía que sacar algo!
¿Cuáles son tus principales influencias musicales y cómo se reflejan en tu estilo?
Me encantan los Beach Boys, Nirvana, los Beatles y The Pixies, The Best. Escucho una influencia de ellos en las estructuras de mis canciones.
¿Cómo fue tu proceso creativo al componer tu canción "Bobbie"?
Desafortunadamente, estuve en una prisión de mínima seguridad durante seis meses y mi madre se enfermó gravemente la primera semana. El estribillo comenzó como una oración/mantra de meditación para desearle lo mejor, pero después de su fallecimiento, escribí todo lo que sentía. Luego lo reduje minuciosamente a una canción.
¿Cuál es la historia o mensaje detrás de esa canción?
Amar a tu madre y nunca darla por sentado. Todas tus acciones la afectan sin importar cuánto tiempo hayas dejado su nido.
¿Cómo grabaste tu canción "Bobbie"? ¿Querés contarnos algo sobre cómo fue el proceso?
Grabé la melodía y la letra, y se nos ocurrió la música durante una sesión de pre-producción. Sin embargo, la banda llevó la música a un nivel completamente nuevo. Me quedé boquiabierto cuando lo grabamos en cuatro tomas. Grabar las voces fue muy emotivo. Rompí en llanto varias veces.
