Based in Los Angeles and originally from San Diego, VANNGO emerged in 2025 on the indie scene with a blend of folk, blues, rock, and grunge, rooted in his background as an entrepreneur in the wellness world.
His
debut single, “We’ll Rise LA!”, was born from the devastation left behind by
the massive wildfires in the region. What emerged is a powerful piece — a song
of resilience for a wounded yet unbreakable city. Later, “HEARTBREAKER USA”
revealed another side of him: raw and direct, a story of heartbreak and
emotional impulsiveness. In June, “Hunger for Love” arrives as his third
release. With blues-tinged riffs, smoky harmonica, and Rhodes keys, the track
explores a deep yearning for connection — the kind that comes before the heart
breaks — “that unresolvable hunger for something real.”
In
this interview, we talk about his musical beginnings, how he turns wounds into
song, his influences, songwriting process, and what we can expect from his
debut album.
How
did you start your music career in Los Angeles after working as an entrepreneur
in the wellness world?
For years, I helped people rebuild their lives through wellness, recovery, and personal transformation and that will never stop. Music was always a part of me and in my soul. But something shifted in me. I realized I had my own stories to tell, and the only honest way to do that was through personal and creative self-expression. So, I carved out space in my life for music, partnered with a talented engineer and began releasing music under my artist’s name VANNGO. It’s not so much a departure from wellness; it's just another way I try to reach people.
“We’ll
Rise LA!” was born after the Los Angeles fires in January. What was it like
turning that traumatic experience into an anthem of resilience?
That fire wasn’t just a headline, it hit close to home. People I knew lost everything, and the emotional smoke lingered long after the flames were gone. Writing “We’ll Rise LA!” was my way of honoring that pain while offering something hopeful. It’s a love letter to a city that gets knocked down and still finds a way to rise. It came from a very real place, raw, grounded, and defiant. The outpouring of support from listeners proved that resilience is something we all recognize when we hear it.
What
inspired you to write “Hunger for Love”?
“Hunger for Love” is about that restless ache, the kind that doesn’t go away with a quick fix. It’s about craving something deeper, something real, even if it scares you. I’ve watched people, and in life, chase all the wrong things trying to fill a void and I have also done it myself. This song explores that tension, the vulnerability of wanting love and connection but not always knowing how to receive it. It’s bluesy, bold, and full of emotional truth.
Between
folk, blues, rock, and grunge — how do you blend those influences into your
songs? Which artists inspire you?
I never felt the need to pick one lane. I love the storytelling of folk, the grit of blues, the punch of rock, and the edge of grunge. For me, it’s about truth and whichever sonic palette best expresses it. Artists like Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, BB King, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin have all shaped my approach. I aim to take pieces of those worlds and channel them into something fresh, grounded in experience but lifted by emotion.
Are
you already working on a full album to tie together the story you started with
the three singles?
Yes, absolutely. These singles were never just isolated releases — they’re part of a larger arc. The upcoming album digs deeper into the themes of identity, longing, transformation, and resilience. It’s a journey through shadow and light. I want the album to feel like a conversation you can have with yourself late at night. Intimate, honest, inspiring, and hopefully healing.
How
would you describe your songwriting process?
It almost always starts with a feeling. Sometimes it’s a lyric or a poem, sometimes a melody, but usually it’s a mood I can’t shake. I’ve written songs on voice memos while walking, in the middle of the night, or in studio sessions that feel more like therapy. I don’t try to force cleverness. I try to stay present and let the truth come through.

¿Cómo comenzaste tu carrera musical en Los Ángeles después de
haber trabajado como emprendedor en el mundo del bienestar?
Durante años ayudé a personas a reconstruir sus vidas a través del bienestar, la recuperación y la transformación personal, y eso es algo que nunca dejaré de hacer. La música siempre fue parte de mí, algo que tenía en el alma. Pero algo cambió en mí. Me di cuenta de que tenía mis propias historias que contar, y la única forma honesta de hacerlo era mediante una expresión personal y creativa. Así que hice espacio en mi vida para la música, me asocié con un ingeniero talentoso y comencé a lanzar canciones bajo mi nombre artístico: VANNGO. No es tanto un alejamiento del bienestar; es simplemente otra forma en la que intento llegar a las personas.
“We’ll Rise LA!” nació después de los incendios de Los

Escribir “We’ll Rise LA!” fue mi manera de honrar ese dolor y al mismo tiempo ofrecer algo esperanzador. Es una carta de amor a una ciudad que, aunque la derriben, siempre encuentra la forma de levantarse. Surgió desde un lugar muy real, crudo, con los pies en la tierra y desafiante. La respuesta del público me demostró que la resiliencia es algo que todos reconocemos cuando lo escuchamos.
¿Qué te inspiró a escribir “Hunger for Love”?
“Hunger for Love” habla de ese anhelo inquieto, ese que no desaparece con una solución rápida. Se trata de desear algo más profundo, algo real, incluso si da miedo. He visto a personas —y yo mismo lo he hecho— perseguir las cosas equivocadas para llenar un vacío. Esta canción explora esa tensión, la vulnerabilidad de querer amor y conexión, pero sin saber siempre cómo recibirlo. Es una canción con tintes de blues, valiente y cargada de verdad emocional.
Entre el folk, el blues, el rock y el grunge, ¿cómo integrás
esas influencias en tus canciones? ¿Qué artistas te inspiran?
Nunca sentí la necesidad de elegir un solo camino. Me encanta la narrativa del folk, la crudeza del blues, la fuerza del rock y el filo del grunge. Para mí, se trata de la verdad, y de usar la paleta sonora que mejor la exprese. Artistas como Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, BB King, The Rolling Stones y Led Zeppelin han influido en mi forma de encarar la música. Trato de tomar elementos de esos mundos y canalizarlos en algo nuevo, con los pies en la experiencia pero elevado por la emoción.
¿Estás trabajando en un álbum completo que reúna la historia
iniciada con tus tres primeros singles?
Sí, absolutamente. Estos singles nunca fueron lanzamientos aislados: son parte de un arco más amplio. El álbum que viene profundiza en temas como la identidad, el deseo, la transformación y la resiliencia. Es un viaje a través de la sombra y la luz. Quiero que el álbum se sienta como una conversación que podés tener con vos mismo a altas horas de la noche: íntima, honesta, inspiradora y, con suerte, sanadora.
¿Cómo describirías tu proceso de composición?
Casi siempre empieza con una sensación. A veces es una letra o un poema, otras veces una melodía, pero normalmente es un estado de ánimo que no puedo sacarme de encima. He escrito canciones en notas de voz mientras camino, en medio de la noche, o en sesiones de estudio que se sienten más como terapia. No intento forzar la creatividad. Trato de estar presente y dejar que la verdad se manifieste.
