From
Walsall, England, pop singer Rosie Byron, inspired by the energy of the 80s and
with a style all her own, presents Territory, a single that reflects the
hope of those who must start anew in an unfamiliar place. With a slower tempo
than her previous works, the song seeks to shed light on current issues,
showcasing the maturity of an artist committed to the power of music as a bridge
of connection. In this interview, Rosie talks to us about her creative process,
the influences that inspire her, and the path she is carving out in the music
scene.
What was
it like working with Tuomo and Tommy on this project?
I love the beats that Tuomo and Tommy create and I wait until I feel a connection with a particular vibe that somehow inspire lyrics. As an artist, I write from experience, but I never know what ideas will arise from a situation. I write in a very unpredictable manner and I like that. I never force lyrics - they are always natural and from the heart.
Do you
think this track marks a turning point in your musical style?
I do not like to be pigeonholed, therefore, I will sing pop songs but I also like to infuse them with Indie too.
You’ve
said that if you don’t remember a lyric after a few days, you discard it. How
did you come up with that technique?
I always have words floating around in my head - in fact I never stop - pretty much like a clock constantly ticking away! I sing all the time and I create randomly and I think if the hook is strong then it will be remembered and if not, then move on!
From Chillin
to Territory, your songs have addressed very different situations. How
has your songwriting evolved?
My songwriting has addressed loneliness (What do we do) COVID - Chillin, relationships (A little bit lonely, Never Did Say, I Don't Want Your Body), Mental Health - Magic, Memories - Remember, Peace - Love Is The Key and Change - Territory. My next track is about finding a soul mate yet being in denial! I want fans to connect with my music/ sound and be able to relate to individual tracks. Everyone has a story to tell.
You’ve
mentioned that you keep your lyrics clean. What does that mean? Why is that
artistic decision so important to you?
I am a mother of 6 and a primary school teacher. I believe in being a good role model and to me that means no offensive language or use of words that may be seen in a negative light. I do not consume alcohol, smoke, gamble and I have only been to clubs a handful of times in my entire life. This is how I choose to live - ultimately it is up to us with the choices we make, but I would much rather be at home reading a book. I have always been very nerdy!

¿Cómo fue trabajar con Tuomo y Tommy en este proyecto?
Me encantan los beats que crean Tuomo y Tommy, y espero hasta sentir una conexión con una vibra en particular que de alguna manera me inspire a escribir letras. Como artista, escribo a partir de la experiencia, pero nunca sé qué ideas surgirán de una situación. Escribo de una manera muy impredecible y eso me gusta. Nunca fuerzo las letras: siempre son naturales y salen del corazón.
¿Crees que este tema marca un punto de inflexión en tu
estilo musical?
No me gusta que me encasillen, por lo tanto, canto canciones pop pero también me gusta infundirles un toque indie.
Has dicho que si no recuerdas una letra después de unos
días, la descartas. ¿Cómo llegaste a esa técnica?
Siempre tengo palabras flotando en mi cabeza —de hecho nunca se detiene—, es como un reloj que constantemente hace tic-tac. Canto todo el tiempo y creo de manera aleatoria, y pienso que si el hook es fuerte, entonces será recordado; y si no, pues a otra cosa.
De Chillin a Territory, tus canciones han
abordado situaciones muy distintas. ¿Cómo ha evolucionado tu composición?
Mis canciones han tratado la soledad (What do we do), la COVID (Chillin), las relaciones (A little bit lonely, Never Did Say, I Don’t Want Your Body), la salud mental (Magic), los recuerdos (Remember), la paz (Love Is The Key) y el cambio (Territory). Mi próximo tema trata sobre encontrar un alma gemela y, al mismo tiempo, estar en negación. Quiero que los fans se conecten con mi música y con mi sonido, y que puedan identificarse con cada canción en particular. Todos tienen una historia que contar.
Has mencionado que mantienes tus letras “limpias”. ¿Qué
significa eso? ¿Por qué es tan importante para ti esa decisión artística?
Soy madre de seis hijos y maestra de primaria. Creo en ser un buen modelo a seguir, y para mí eso significa no usar lenguaje ofensivo ni palabras que puedan verse de manera negativa. No consumo alcohol, no fumo, no apuesto y he ido a clubes apenas unas pocas veces en toda mi vida. Así es como elijo vivir: en última instancia, depende de nosotros y de las decisiones que tomemos, pero yo prefiero estar en casa leyendo un libro. ¡Siempre he sido muy nerd!
