From his
corner in Melbourne, Australia, Jason McKee, the mind behind ReeToxA, continues
to find in music a vehicle for life itself. His new single, “Alcohol”, is a
fierce blast of punk rock — a story of excess that opens Pines Salad.
In this new
conversation with Revista Soundloop, the Australian musician talks about his upcoming
second album, the power of therapy, the nostalgia for his younger years in
Sydney, and how his music blends reflection and hangover, beauty and impact.
Many of
your songs are inspired by different experiences. What’s one of the latest
stories you’d like to turn into a song?
I’m really concentrating on recording the second album at the moment, but new songs keep popping up. A lot of songs about girls lately lol.
What
song or songs by another artist do you wish you had written, and why?
I got I’d by pear jam feed like I wrote it. I’d love to have written more songs when I was down before medication and therapy. Maybe I can still go back in time and remember how I felt I think people would like that.
Do you
buy records and listen to music old school, or do you prefer modern
technologies? What albums do you usually listen to?
If I like an album on streaming, I’ll usually buy the vinyl. I need a bigger place I have so much vinyl lol.
If your
music were a drink, what would it taste like, what color would it be, and what
effects would it have?
I think we would be a tequila sunrise, looks like night times gone and the day of reflection is coming. Plus, the tequila packs a punch.
How
different is your life now in Melbourne compared to the young man who dreamed
of moving to Sydney, and what parts are still left to conquer?
Going on tour and forming a live band is the next step the young kid in me would still be dreaming about. I still have troubles, but I deal better with it now and cut out toxic people from my life.

detrás de ReeToxA, sigue encontrando en la música un vehículo para la vida. Su
nuevo single, “Alcohol”, es una descarga feroz de rock-punk: una historia de
excesos que abre Pines Salad.
Muchas de tus canciones están inspiradas en diferentes
experiencias. ¿Cuál es una de las últimas historias que te gustaría convertir
en canción?
En este momento estoy muy concentrado en grabar el segundo álbum, pero siguen apareciendo nuevas canciones. Últimamente muchas hablan sobre chicas, jaja.
¿Qué canción o canciones de otro artista te habría
gustado escribir, y por qué?
“I Got Id” de Pearl Jam… siento como si la hubiera escrito yo. Me habría encantado escribir más canciones cuando estaba deprimido, antes de la medicación y la terapia. Tal vez todavía pueda retroceder en el tiempo y recordar cómo me sentía; creo que a la gente le gustaría eso.
¿Comprás discos y escuchás música a la vieja escuela, o
preferís las tecnologías modernas? ¿Qué álbumes solés escuchar?
Si me gusta un álbum en streaming, normalmente compro el vinilo. Necesito un lugar más grande, tengo demasiado vinilo, jaja.
Si tu música fuera una bebida, ¿a qué sabría, de qué
color sería y qué efecto tendría?
Creo que sería un tequila sunrise: parece que la noche se ha ido y llega el día de la reflexión. Además, el tequila tiene su golpe.
¿Qué tan diferente es tu vida ahora en Melbourne,
comparada con la del joven que soñaba con mudarse a Sídney? ¿Qué partes te
quedan aún por conquistar?
Salir de gira y formar una banda en vivo es el siguiente paso, algo con lo que ese chico joven todavía estaría soñando. Aún tengo problemas, pero ahora los manejo mejor y eliminé a la gente tóxica de mi vida.
