An Interview with Veanea: Music, Faith, and the Search for the True Pearl

 

Veanea crafts a body of work in which music functions as a space for encounter, contemplation, and spiritual seeking. Behind the artistic name stands composer and songwriter Veronika Bordovská, classically trained in piano and deeply shaped by her experience of worship within the Pentecostal–charismatic church.

Her new single, The Pearl, is a clear synthesis of this identity: a song born from an everyday experience—a walk through her city, a moment of compassion in the face of others’ pain—that transforms into a sonic narrative about hope, love, and eternal life. Featuring a sensitive vocal performance by Eric Haley, the track offers a message that transcends cultural and religious boundaries.

More than a simple worship song, The Pearl presents itself as an open invitation: to pause, to listen, and to ask what the true “pearl” guiding our lives really is. In this interview, Veanea reflects on her artistic journey, her relationship with faith, the creative process behind her latest release, and her conviction that music can be a genuine channel for personal and collective transformation.

 

How did your years of studying piano shape the way you compose and think about music today? What can you tell us about that period of training?

My piano studies shaped me from the very beginning — music has been part of who I am for as long as I can remember. As a child, I attended piano lessons at a local music school in my hometown, and I genuinely loved it. Those years weren’t just about technique; they formed my musical sensitivity and inner world. I was deeply influenced by my teacher, who led us into a relationship with classical music and regularly took us to Prague for the Days of Musical Youth. At the same time, the city itself was alive with concerts and cultural events — it was a beautiful, inspiring period.

Alongside my formal training, I was always searching for sheet music of popular songs so I could play them on the piano and experiment with improvisation. That mix of discipline and freedom still defines the way I think about music today.

After completing my seven-year music education, I stepped away from the piano for a while and devoted myself to gliding. I swapped the piano for a glider. Music stayed with me internally, but the instrument itself went quiet — until a turning point in my life. After finishing my studies, I made a personal decision to accept Jesus Christ, began attending a local Christian church, and returned to the piano with a completely new purpose.

I felt that worship music was exactly where I belonged. This was shortly after the Velvet Revolution in the Czech Republic, a time of newly found freedom, democracy, and spiritual openness. People across the country were turning to Christ through the work of missionaries, and the first charismatic Christian churches were beginning to emerge. It was an extraordinary season.

One moment marked me profoundly: a miracle service led by Australian missionary Steve Ryder. I witnessed a young person stand up from a wheelchair, his family in tears of joy. A man who had been deaf for many years suddenly began to hear. The atmosphere was overwhelming — people crying and laughing at the same time. I had never experienced anything like it. That night, deeply moved by God’s power and love, I told God that I wanted to truly know Him.

Soon after, during a satellite broadcast of American evangelist Billy Graham held in a local cinema, I made a final decision to walk my life with Jesus Christ. From that point on, I played actively and closely followed the development of contemporary Christian music. I always longed for worship to be modern, dynamic, and free — a space where the Holy Spirit could move without limits. I’m grateful to see how much the sound and spiritual depth of worship have evolved today, and how powerfully God touches people during our gatherings.

My desire is for people to be impacted by modern Christian worship — it is a powerful tool through which Jesus can transform lives. About a year and a half ago, God deeply touched my ministry during the Fire Holy Spirit Conference in Prague with Colombian pastors Ricardo and Patty Rodriguez. Since then, I’ve found myself immersed in a beautiful world of melodies. It feels like a flowing river — and I simply shape those melodies into songs.

 

Let’s talk about your latest single, The Pearl. The lyrics revolve around the idea of finding “the true pearl.” What does that pearl represent in your life today?

For me, the pearl is a symbol of love and eternal life.

I consider the greatest miracle to be the salvation of humanity that took place thousands of years ago on the cross in Israel. God sent His only Son to save mankind. Out of great love for humanity, Jesus Christ gave the most precious thing He had — His own life — so that we could be set free from sin, sickness, and the burdens of life. On the third day, God raised Him from the dead. He is alive, and anyone can encounter Him today.

When a person chooses Him, they receive not only the pearl of eternal life, but also a personal relationship with Him — and that, for me, is the most precious pearl of all. To have such an incredible friend and at the same time know the Creator of the universe and the earth is truly beyond words.

So He Himself is the pearl, and He leads us into the Kingdom of God — whether we understand that as a living relationship with Him here and now, or as eternity. When we live with Him, we experience great blessing and the reality of God’s Kingdom already on earth, in every area of life: family, church, work, and our personal journey. But above all, He personally is my pearl.

 

What did you feel when the song fully revealed itself while you were walking through your city?

It was a beautiful and unexpected summer moment.

At the time, I was working on several other songs, but there was a recurring chorus that didn’t seem to fit anywhere. One warm summer morning, I was walking through the city, daydreaming about the sea, the coastline, and boats as I approached a bus stop.

Suddenly, God touched me deeply when I began to notice the people around me. I was near a hospital, and there was a steady flow of people passing by — some of them stopped, and it felt as if I was seeing them through eyes filled with compassion. There were people on crutches, people who were sick. I felt a love and a strong desire to pray for them, and in that very moment, a melody came to me that naturally connected with the chorus.

I was overwhelmed with joy. I immediately started singing it and recorded it on my phone. When I got home, I knew the song had been born. I sat down at the keys, and within a short time, the entire song came together. I knew it was about the pearl — the Kingdom of God — and that it points especially to the salvation of humanity. It is also a song shaped by that real-life moment I experienced in the city.

I instantly knew that Eric Haley was the perfect person to sing it, and I’m deeply grateful for this collaboration. He is a worship leader in a growing church in Fort Worth, Texas, and someone who is sensitive to the Holy Spirit. He is also highly creative, and we were able to discuss the music openly — something I truly love. This is our third song together.

I pray over every musical project, and God continues to reveal His secrets to me. God has no boundaries, and it’s incredible that we can collaborate across continents.

 

The lyrics speak both to believers and to those who are still “lost in the waves.” What role does compassion play in this song, especially toward those who have not yet come to faith?

The Pearl is my first song that carries a story.

It isn’t only a worship song — it’s a celebration of life with God and an open invitation to follow Jesus Christ for those who don’t yet know Him. At the same time, I wanted it to bring joy and love, and to feel natural and sincere — just as God is good and deeply cares about every small detail of our lives and everything we go through.

Compassion played a key role in the creation of this song, and I pray that God would personally touch every person who hears it. Each of us is walking our own journey through life, and God has a unique plan for every individual — a plan He longs to reveal so that we don’t miss it and so our lives can be truly fulfilled.

We are all original, and my deepest desire is that through this song, God would speak to each listener personally and transform the life of everyone who hears it.

 

Is there a particular line or verse in The Pearl that feels especially personal to you?

I’m especially fond of the lines about the sailor.

I wanted the lyrics to feel playful, a little witty, and visually engaging. At first, I considered using the image of a fisherman, but the sailor simply felt more right — more contemporary, more “in,” and perfectly suited to the story the song is telling.

“God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.” – 1 John 5:11

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – John 14:6

Una entrevista con Veanea: música, fe y la búsqueda de la perla verdadera

Veanea construye una obra donde la música funciona como espacio de encuentro, contemplación y búsqueda espiritual. Detrás de ese nombre artístico se encuentra la compositora y songwriter Veronika Bordovská, formada en piano clásico y profundamente marcada por la experiencia del worship dentro de la iglesia pentecostal-carismática.

Su nuevo single, The Pearl, es una síntesis clara de esa identidad: una canción que nace de una experiencia cotidiana —una caminata por su ciudad, un instante de compasión frente al dolor ajeno— y se transforma en un relato sonoro sobre la esperanza, el amor y la vida eterna. Con una interpretación vocal sensible a cargo de Eric Haley, el tema nos propone un mensaje que trasciende fronteras culturales y religiosas.

Más que una simple canción de adoración, The Pearl se presenta como una invitación abierta: a detenerse, escuchar y preguntarse cuál es la verdadera “perla” que guía nuestras vidas. En esta entrevista, Veanea repasa su camino artístico, su relación con la fe, el proceso creativo detrás de su último lanzamiento y su convicción de que la música puede ser un canal real de transformación personal y colectiva.

 

¿Cómo influyeron tus años de estudio de piano en la forma en que hoy componés y pensás la música? ¿Qué nos podés contar de ese período de formación?

Mis estudios de piano me formaron desde el principio: la música ha sido parte de quien soy desde que tengo memoria. De niña asistía a clases de piano en una escuela de música local de mi ciudad natal, y realmente lo disfrutaba. Esos años no fueron solo técnica; moldearon mi sensibilidad musical y mi mundo interior. Estuve profundamente influenciada por mi profesora, que nos introdujo en una relación cercana con la música clásica y nos llevaba regularmente a Praga a los Días de la Juventud Musical. Al mismo tiempo, la ciudad estaba llena de conciertos y eventos culturales: fue una etapa hermosa e inspiradora.

Junto a la formación formal, siempre buscaba partituras de canciones populares para tocarlas al piano y experimentar con la improvisación. Esa combinación de disciplina y libertad sigue definiendo hoy mi manera de pensar la música.

Después de completar mis siete años de educación musical, me alejé del piano por un tiempo y me dediqué al vuelo sin motor. Cambié el piano por un planeador. La música permaneció conmigo a nivel interno, pero el instrumento quedó en silencio… hasta un punto de inflexión en mi vida. Tras finalizar mis estudios, tomé una decisión personal de aceptar a Jesucristo, comencé a asistir a una iglesia cristiana local y regresé al piano con un propósito completamente nuevo.

Sentí que la música de adoración era exactamente el lugar al que pertenecía. Esto ocurrió poco después de la Revolución de Terciopelo en la República Checa, una época de libertad recién conquistada, democracia y apertura espiritual. Personas de todo el país se acercaban a Cristo a través del trabajo de misioneros, y comenzaban a surgir las primeras iglesias cristianas carismáticas. Fue una temporada extraordinaria.

Hubo un momento que me marcó profundamente: un servicio de milagros liderado por el misionero australiano Steve Ryder. Fui testigo de cómo una persona joven se levantaba de una silla de ruedas, con su familia llorando de alegría. Un hombre que había sido sordo durante muchos años comenzó de repente a oír. La atmósfera era abrumadora: la gente lloraba y reía al mismo tiempo. Nunca había experimentado algo así. Esa noche, profundamente conmovida por el poder y el amor de Dios, le dije que quería conocerlo de verdad.

Poco después, durante una transmisión satelital del evangelista estadounidense Billy Graham realizada en un cine local, tomé la decisión definitiva de caminar mi vida junto a Jesucristo. A partir de ese momento comencé a tocar activamente y a seguir de cerca el desarrollo de la música cristiana contemporánea. Siempre anhelé que la adoración fuera moderna, dinámica y libre: un espacio donde el Espíritu Santo pudiera moverse sin límites. Me alegra ver cuánto han evolucionado hoy el sonido y la profundidad espiritual de la adoración, y cuán poderosamente Dios toca a las personas en nuestros encuentros.

Mi deseo es que las personas sean impactadas por la adoración cristiana moderna: es una herramienta poderosa a través de la cual Jesús puede transformar vidas. Hace aproximadamente un año y medio, Dios tocó profundamente mi ministerio durante la conferencia Fire Holy Spirit en Praga, junto a los pastores colombianos Ricardo y Patty Rodríguez. Desde entonces, me he visto inmersa en un mundo hermoso de melodías. Se siente como un río que fluye, y yo simplemente doy forma a esas melodías en canciones.

 

Hablemos de tu último single, The Pearl. La letra gira en torno a la idea de encontrar “la perla verdadera”. ¿Qué representa esa perla en tu vida hoy?

Para mí, la perla es un símbolo de amor y vida eterna.

Considero que el mayor milagro es la salvación de la humanidad que tuvo lugar hace miles de años en la cruz, en Israel. Dios envió a su único Hijo para salvar a la humanidad. Por un amor inmenso hacia las personas, Jesucristo entregó lo más preciado que tenía —su propia vida— para que pudiéramos ser libres del pecado, de la enfermedad y de las cargas de la vida. Al tercer día, Dios lo resucitó de entre los muertos. Él vive, y cualquiera puede encontrarse con Él hoy.

Cuando una persona lo elige, recibe no solo la perla de la vida eterna, sino también una relación personal con Él, y eso, para mí, es la perla más valiosa de todas. Tener un amigo tan increíble y, al mismo tiempo, conocer al Creador del universo y de la tierra es algo verdaderamente indescriptible.

Así que Él mismo es la perla, y nos conduce al Reino de Dios, ya sea que lo entendamos como una relación viva con Él aquí y ahora, o como la eternidad. Cuando vivimos con Él, experimentamos una gran bendición y la realidad del Reino de Dios ya en la tierra, en todas las áreas de la vida: familia, iglesia, trabajo y nuestro camino personal. Pero, por encima de todo, Él personalmente es mi perla.

 

¿Qué sentiste cuando la canción terminó de revelarse mientras caminabas por tu ciudad?

Fue un momento de verano hermoso e inesperado.

En ese tiempo estaba trabajando en varias canciones, pero había un estribillo recurrente que no parecía encajar en ningún lugar. Una mañana cálida de verano, caminaba por la ciudad, soñando despierta con el mar, la costa y los barcos, mientras me acercaba a una parada de colectivo.

De repente, Dios me tocó profundamente cuando empecé a notar a las personas a mi alrededor. Estaba cerca de un hospital y había un flujo constante de gente pasando; algunas se detenían, y sentí como si las estuviera viendo con ojos llenos de compasión. Había personas con muletas, personas enfermas. Sentí amor y un fuerte deseo de orar por ellas, y en ese mismo momento llegó una melodía que se conectó de manera natural con el estribillo.

Me sentí desbordada de alegría. Empecé a cantarla de inmediato y la grabé en mi teléfono. Cuando llegué a casa, supe que la canción había nacido. Me senté al teclado y, en poco tiempo, la canción entera tomó forma. Sabía que hablaba de la perla —el Reino de Dios— y que apuntaba especialmente a la salvación de la humanidad. También es una canción moldeada por ese momento real que viví en la ciudad.

Supe al instante que Eric Haley era la persona perfecta para cantarla, y estoy profundamente agradecida por esta colaboración. Él es líder de adoración en una iglesia en crecimiento en Fort Worth, Texas, y alguien muy sensible al Espíritu Santo. Además, es altamente creativo, y pudimos dialogar abiertamente sobre la música, algo que realmente valoro. Esta es nuestra tercera canción juntos.

Oro por cada proyecto musical, y Dios continúa revelándome sus secretos. Dios no tiene fronteras, y es increíble que podamos colaborar a través de continentes.

 

La letra habla tanto al creyente como a quien todavía “está perdido en las olas”. ¿Qué lugar ocupa la compasión en esta canción, especialmente hacia quienes aún no conocen la fe?

The Pearl es mi primera canción que lleva una historia.

No es solo una canción de adoración: es una celebración de la vida con Dios y una invitación abierta a seguir a Jesucristo para quienes todavía no lo conocen. Al mismo tiempo, quería que transmitiera alegría y amor, y que se sintiera natural y sincera, tal como Dios es bueno y se preocupa profundamente por cada pequeño detalle de nuestras vidas y por todo lo que atravesamos.

La compasión tuvo un papel clave en la creación de esta canción, y oro para que Dios toque personalmente a cada persona que la escuche. Cada uno de nosotros recorre su propio camino en la vida, y Dios tiene un plan único para cada individuo, un plan que anhela revelar para que no lo perdamos y para que nuestras vidas puedan realizarse plenamente.

Todos somos originales, y mi deseo más profundo es que, a través de esta canción, Dios hable a cada oyente de manera personal y transforme la vida de todos los que la escuchen.

 

¿Hay algún verso o línea de The Pearl que sientas especialmente personal?

Tengo un cariño especial por las líneas sobre el marinero.

Quería que la letra se sintiera lúdica, con un toque de ingenio y muy visual. Al principio consideré usar la imagen de un pescador, pero el marinero simplemente se sentía más adecuado: más contemporáneo, más actual, y perfectamente alineado con la historia que la canción está contando.
