ReeToxA
rocks hard with the release of their new album, Soliloquy. A monumental
work of 26 songs; it is the result of decades of ideas, memories, and emotions
finally taking shape in a record that is memorable, moving, and diverse.
In this new
interview with the Soundloop Magazine, McKee tells us about the process of
reconstructing lost songs, the challenge of shaping a project that was
originally meant to span six albums, the recording experience with his team,
and what lies ahead for ReeToxA following the release of the new album.
Congratulations
for the new álbum! Soliloquy has 26 songs, and you originally envisioned it as
a six-album project. What was the selection process like that led to leaving so
many songs out? Did you follow any specific criteria? Did you make those decisions
together with your producer?
When the album was six sides long, I changed my name from Westerhof to McKee to honour my mother who passed away. When I changed my apple account, I lost everything; my voice notes, memos and photos. Just before COVID, I went on a cruise to new zeal and spent the whole time trying to remember all the songs. I guess I just remembered the best ones.
How long
did it take you to record the full album? Did you record it as a band playing
live, or did you choose to track each part separately?
The band recorded it in four days, then five days of guitar overdubs. My vocals took six days then there was a day of piano and a day of duet / back-up vocals.

When
does the tour to present the new album begin? Do you already have a plan for
where it will start?
I am trying to get a live band together as we speak. I should go on tour this year hopefully.
Are you
currently working on any music videos?
I’d love to do more videos. Maybe next single.
Do you
have any anecdotes from the recording of the album that you’d like to share
with us?
I brought the boys beer and tequila and now I’m a fan of tequila lol. We bonded a lot more this album and had a lot of fun.

¿Cómo fue el proceso de selección que dejó tantas canciones afuera? ¿Seguiste
algún criterio en particular? ¿Tomaste esas decisiones junto a tu productor?
Cuando el álbum era de seis partes, cambié mi nombre de Westerhof a McKee para honrar a mi madre, que falleció. Cuando cambié mi cuenta de Apple, perdí todo: mis notas de voz, memos y fotos. Justo antes del COVID hice un crucero a Nueva Zelanda y pasé todo el tiempo tratando de recordar las canciones. Supongo que simplemente recordé las mejores.
¿Cuánto tiempo les llevó grabar el álbum completo? ¿Lo
grabaron como banda en vivo o fueron registrando cada parte por separado?
La banda lo grabó en cuatro días, luego hubo cinco días de overdubs de guitarra. Mis voces llevaron seis días, después hubo un día de piano y otro día de duetos y coros.
¿Cuándo comienza la gira para presentar el nuevo álbum?
¿Ya tenés planeado dónde empezaría?
Estoy tratando de armar una banda en vivo en este momento. Con suerte, debería salir de gira este año.
¿Estás trabajando en algún videoclip?
Me encantaría hacer más videos. Quizás para el próximo single.
¿Tenés alguna anécdota de la grabación del álbum que
quieras compartir?
Llevé a los chicos cerveza y tequila, y ahora soy fan del tequila (risas). Nos unimos mucho más en este álbum y la pasamos muy bien.
