Between life and rock: ReeToxA talks to us about “Thrift Shop Dress” and gives us details of her new álbum
On this
occasion, we had the chance to speak once again with Jason Bill McKee, the
leader of ReeToxA, who returns rocking with the release of his new single,
“Thrift Shop Dress.” The song is part of his new album, a work written during
the intense years of the pandemic and shaped by personal experiences that
deeply influenced the creative process.
In this
interview, ReeToxA tells us how the story behind “Thrift Shop Dress” came to
life, about the recording process with his team, and about the path that led to
the creation of an album which, as he himself describes it, works as a true
journey through life.
Before
going into details about the new single, “Thrift Shop Dress” is part of your
new album. How would you describe the overall concept of the record?
The album is a life journey that I mainly wrote and finished during covid. I went on a massive writing burst but pushed myself so far that I ended up in hospital for six weeks.
“Thrift
Shop Dress” has a very evocative title. How did the idea behind the song come
about?
I kept seeing north side Melbourne girls who wore those dresses! I was too shy to talk to them though.
What was
the first element that appeared when you started working on the track: the
lyrics, the riff, or the melody?
I saw a girl looking and smoking into a thrift shop window in Brunswick on the way to band practice. The Melodie and lyrics poured out.
The song
has a very indie rock power style — a great choice for a single! Was there any
specific musical influence that shaped the sound of this track?
In pre-production, Craig and Simon asked me about the buy sound and I saw it as a cool Indi track. The guitar riff wrote itself!
Was
there any spontaneous moment or improvisation during the recording of the song
that ended up staying in the final version?
Simon added some cool pads and effects! Very subtle but really add to the song!

nuevamente con Jason Bill McKee, líder de ReeToxA, que vuelve a rockear con el
lanzamiento de su nuevo single, “Thrift Shop Dress”. Esta canción forma parte
de su nuevo álbum, un trabajo escrito durante los intensos años de la pandemia
y atravesado por experiencias personales que marcaron profundamente el proceso
creativo.
En esta entrevista, ReeToxA nos cuenta cómo surgió la
historia detrás de “Thrift Shop Dress”, el proceso de grabación junto a su
equipo y el camino que llevó a la creación de un disco que, según él mismo
describe, funciona como un verdadero viaje de vida.
Antes de entrar en detalles sobre el nuevo single,
“Thrift Shop Dress” forma parte de tu nuevo álbum. ¿Cómo describirías el
concepto general del disco?
El álbum es un viaje de vida que principalmente escribí y terminé durante el COVID. Tuve un estallido enorme de composición, pero me exigí tanto que terminé hospitalizado durante seis semanas.
“Thrift Shop Dress” tiene un título muy evocador. ¿Cómo
surgió la idea detrás de la canción?
Siempre veía chicas del lado norte de Melbourne que usaban esos vestidos. Pero era demasiado tímido como para hablarles.
¿Cuál fue el primer elemento que apareció cuando
empezaste a trabajar en el tema: la letra, el riff o la melodía?
Vi a una chica mirando y fumando frente a la vidriera de una tienda de ropa usada en Brunswick, camino al ensayo de la banda. La melodía y la letra salieron de golpe.
La canción tiene un estilo muy power indie rock — ¡una
gran elección para un single! ¿Hubo alguna influencia musical específica que
haya marcado el sonido del tema?
En la preproducción, Craig y Simon me preguntaron cuál era el sonido que buscaba y yo lo veía como un tema indie cool. ¡El riff de guitarra se escribió solo!
¿Hubo algún momento espontáneo o improvisación durante la
grabación que terminó quedándose en la versión final?
Simon agregó unos pads y efectos muy buenos. Son muy sutiles, ¡pero realmente suman mucho a la canción!
