From the studio to the songs: ReeToxA talks about his new album



The Australian project ReeToxA, led by Jason Bill McKee, continues its musical journey with the release of a new album, scheduled to come out on March 23. Written largely during the years of the pandemic, the record captures a moment of explosive creativity and deeply personal expression for the artist.

In this new conversation with Soundloop Magazine, through anecdotes, reflections, and unexpected memories, McKee talks about the album’s recording process, the atmosphere in the studio with his collaborators, the challenges that arose during production, and the musical evolution of ReeToxA since its debut.

 

What was the atmosphere like in the studio during recording?

It was like catching up with old friends. The atmosphere was a lot friendlier and less intimidating. I brought the boys, tequila and beer. We had a blast.

 

Was the dynamic with the musicians different in the production of this album or did they follow a similar plan to the debut album?

We all poured our souls into the music, and they realized I was not a one album wonder. They could tell I meant it.

Were there any major challenges during the production of the album?

I was drinking a lot. I ended up in hospital getting an iv drip on day four.

 

Was there an initial version of a song that was very different from the one you finally released?

Simon turned demand perfection into an anthem. He captured what I intended exactly.

 

Would you say that this album shows a musical evolution with respect to the debut album or is it more like a continuation?

The first album was more of a personal best of. The second album feels like a real album.

 

Are there any songs on the new album that surprised you during the creative process?

Timor Leste with the orchestra made me appreciate my youth and decisions. Without knowing it I was still creating beautiful songs in the navy.

El proyecto australiano ReeToxA, liderado por Jason Bill McKee, continúa su carrera musical con el lanzamiento de un álbum, con fecha de estreno para el 23 de marzo. Escrito en gran parte durante los años de la pandemia, el disco captura un momento de creatividad explosiva y profundamente personal para el artista.

En esta nueva conversación con la Revista Soundloop, entre anécdotas, reflexiones y recuerdos inesperados McKee habla sobre el proceso de grabación del álbum, el ambiente en el estudio junto a sus colaboradores, los desafíos que surgieron durante la producción y la evolución musical de ReeToxA desde su debut.


¿Cómo fue el ambiente en el estudio durante la grabación?

Fue como reencontrarse con viejos amigos. El ambiente era mucho más amistoso y menos intimidante. Llevé a los chicos, tequila y cerveza. La pasamos genial.

 

¿La dinámica con los músicos fue diferente en la producción de este álbum o siguieron un plan similar al del álbum debut?

Todos pusimos el alma en la música y se dieron cuenta de que yo no era un artista de un solo álbum. Podían notar que iba en serio.

 

¿Hubo grandes desafíos durante la producción del álbum?

Estaba bebiendo mucho. Terminé en el hospital recibiendo suero por vía intravenosa al cuarto día.

 

¿Hubo alguna versión inicial de una canción que fuera muy diferente de la que finalmente lanzaron?

Simon convirtió “Demand Perfection” en un himno. Captó exactamente lo que yo quería transmitir.

 

¿Dirías que este álbum muestra una evolución musical con respecto al debut o es más bien una continuación?

El primer álbum era más bien una especie de “lo mejor de lo personal”. El segundo álbum se siente como un álbum de verdad.

 

¿Hay canciones en el nuevo álbum que te hayan sorprendido durante el proceso creativo?

“Timor Leste”, con la orquesta, me hizo apreciar mi juventud y las decisiones que tomé. Sin darme cuenta, incluso en la marina seguía creando canciones hermosas.
