ReeToxA gave us a new interview and talked to us about their recent release, “War Killer”, the most punk-oriented track from their latest album. In this new interview with Soundloop Magazine, McKee reflects on the current geopolitical climate, his years in the Australian Navy, the influence of punk on his life, and the spontaneous process behind “War Killer”. “War Killer” is your first openly political song. What is your impression about the current geopolitical situation in the world?
Everyone is so divided! We would be better off working together and being united!
What were your years in the Australian Navy like? Do you feel that this experience changed your way of seeing life?
I joined the navy to escape some hard times in my life. I thought it would be good pay and travel. It was fun and made some good friends but I should have been doing art. I have mixed emotions.
Why did you imagine that “War Killer” could have been left out of Soliloquy?
There are some great left over songs that will come out in time. I’d love to do an extended version of soliloquy if I could afford it.
This is your most punk song yet. Do you usually listen to punk in your free time? What bands do you like the most in this genre?
Punk is my favourite! I love the clash, sex pistols, black flag, pennywise the best.
Were there improvisations that ended up being in the final version?
The whole song felt improvised it flowed very freely.
Do you feel that this song put you in a different facet as a singer?
Yeah it’s so much fun to sing. It gave me a voice!
Would you like to record more songs with this energy or do you prefer more melodic songs?
Is love to do a punk album! The next album is looking like being less serious and more fun. Then maybe the fourth album could be punk.

“War Killer” es tu primera canción abiertamente política. ¿Cuál es tu impresión sobre la situación geopolítica actual del mundo?
¡Todos están tan divididos! ¡Estaríamos mucho mejor trabajando juntos y unidos!
¿Cómo fueron tus años en la Marina australiana? ¿Sentís que esa experiencia cambió tu manera de ver la vida?
Entré a la Marina para escapar de algunos momentos difíciles de mi vida. Pensé que tendría un buen sueldo y podría viajar. Fue divertido e hice buenos amigos, pero debería haberme dedicado al arte. Tengo sentimientos encontrados.
¿Por qué imaginabas que “War Killer” podría haber quedado afuera de Soliloquy?
Hay grandes canciones que quedaron afuera y que saldrán con el tiempo. Me encantaría hacer una versión expandida de Soliloquy si pudiera permitírmelo.
Esta es tu canción más punk hasta ahora. ¿Escuchás punk habitualmente en tu tiempo libre? ¿Qué bandas son tus favoritas dentro del género?
¡El punk es mi favorito! Amo a The Clash, Sex Pistols, Black Flag y Pennywise.
¿Hubo improvisaciones que terminaron quedando en la versión final?
Toda la canción se sintió improvisada, fluyó de una manera muy libre.
¿Sentís que esta canción mostró una faceta diferente tuya como cantante?
Sí, es muy divertida de cantar. ¡Me dio una voz!
¿Te gustaría grabar más canciones con esta energía o preferís temas más melódicos?
¡Me encantaría hacer un álbum punk! El próximo disco parece que será menos serio y más divertido. Y quizás el cuarto álbum pueda ser completamente punk.
